Beginning a journey...

I have always cared too much what other people think of me, especially what they think of how I look. Even as a little girl I worried about these things. In the last couple years I have been journeying toward a greater confidence, and also finding who I really am. For years I thought that dreadlocks were just awesome, but told myself I couldn't "pull them off", I was afraid of what people would think about me. But I'm not afraid anymore. I am learning not to care what anyone thinks, and just be me. So yes, I am getting dreads, and I am so very excited about it. I have been inspired by the dread journeys of Boho Girl, Em, and Sara. (I especially love Denise, aka Boho Girl's dreads- she has darker hair like mine. She's a photographer too and our sons are similar ages. Her blog rocks; check it out!)

One thing I have learned from reading online is that having dreads is a journey, and so much more tan just a hairstyle. They teach you things, they change and evolve. I am really looking forward to the process.

{Some of you probably think I am crazy right about now- that's okay :) }

I am talking with a stylist up in Fort Pierce who knows how to do crocheted dreads- a method I have decided will be best for me do to the fact that it doesn't involve wax or chemicals, and doesn't involve months of your hair just looking (and being) dirty and weird. I will write about my whole dread journey here of course and post pictures, which is why I wanted to start with this post as sort of an introduction.
